Our non-dachshund is a MUTT! He is a pitbull type but unregistered. He LOVES the dachshund pups. It is really fun to watch him play with them!

Aw very cute! Don't you just love the breed, we have always had Am staffs, heres Rocko this was about 4 or 5 yrs ago. My mom's first Am Staff was Amadea pronounced Am-uh-day-uh was a therapy dog she would take her around to the local nursing homes.

My favorite non Dachsie breeds are: Australian Cattle Dogs (some people call them blue heelers) which are alot of dog in a medium, short haired, well muscled, very intelligent package. They do need to have a job to do, and need to be a part of your packs every day activities, not left to their own imaginations to keep occupied :)

But I also am a huge fan of Greyhounds, having retired racers in the past, they make wonderful couch potato pets that still like to go for walks (and a good run a couple times a week in a fully fenced area) and they shed minimal amounts, come in a wide array of color and patterns, and looks so cute in their little jammie outfits LOL

My favorite medium dog is the Cardigan Welsh Corgi....not sure if you know what those are. They aren't the normal corgis you see these days. They have bigger ears and tails! I love them so much. They are good dogs, but very hard to find because they are as common as the other tail-less corgis.

check them out

They are! I like the ones with the tail better. They are herding dogs and are great for agility. They really are like a big dog in a little dog body. They are used to herd cattle which i think is amazing because they are not big dogs. Whenever I see one my heart melts. I want to get one, but I have yet to find a good breeder for them that is in the US. But one day I hope to find one lol

They don't actually make a very good dog, so far as herding. They just can't keep up for miles and miles and mile.
But they *do* make a good dog when doing close work, like in a corral. (I talked to a lot of working people about Cardigans since we were looking at one a few years ago! That was something that came up over and over again; they probably can't keep up for long-range work, but for close work they're great.)

Our Jack is a Pembroke corgi/heeler (ACD) cross. He looks a lot like a Cardigan. A little bigger than a Pembroke, bigger ears, and a tail! :D

My boyfriend is really pushing towards the german shepherd, and I'm starting to like the idea as well. There's a place close to my house that raises puppies and also offers agility classes - I'm calling them tomorrow to ask if we can stop by this weekend to get information and meet their dogs. If we do get a puppy, we're planning no earlier than the end of this year so I have tons of times to get information. I have a few concerns, especially as far as making sure my dachshunds are safe so does anyone have any experience with these dogs growing up with small dogs? I know Brutis, my boxer when I lived at home, grew up around their dachshund Shortie and he's so gentle and very trustworthy with small dogs. I also know the place I want to visit offers agility classes, but I need to ask about obedience classes and socialization. I have their website, if anyone who knows a lot about the breed wants to take a look and give me their opinion that would be great!

Just wanted to give an update. :D

Edited to say I googled the name of this place and found several awful reviews, so I think I'll keep looking...

Oh MY....I am rooting for the shepherd....When I got my ryder(shepherd) i was still breeding pups at the time, he was so docile and gentle, could not ask for a better dog....Of course he was not left with them unattended, and we worked very hard on "be easy", and leave it...His best friend was Tucker my red piebald i use to have...

i have a pic somewheres of my shepherd and doxies but i can't find it right now...if i find them i will post them.
